Student Discounts in Leeds
Leeds – a student’s paradise. Not only is it an extremely student-friendly city in which to spend your uni years, it also goes out of its way to accommodate students in the cash department.
Here are some of the main student discounts you need to know about in Leeds. Remember – in most cases you’ll need a valid student ID or NUS card to qualify.
Food & Shopping
There are plenty of brands within Leeds’ Trinity Shopping Centre and beyond that offer bargain savings for students, including Giraffe and Coast who give 20% and 15% off respectively.
Eating out also becomes a welcome treat with the variety of student offers on across the city. Handmade Burger Co. will give you 15% off, or 30% if you visit on a Monday. Chicago Rib Shack is a prime place to chow down as it gives 30% off every Thursday, while Shabab Indian restaurants all offer their students 20% off mains and appetizers (excluding seafood).
If you fancy something sweet, go grab a crepe from Crepe Affair, who will give you 15% off with a flash of your student card.
Saengarum Thai Restaurant also offers 15%, and Gourmet Burger Kitchen will give 20% off to anybody who downloads their mobile app and then shows their NUS card in the restaurant to get their student badge.
Leeds is awash with bars and clubs all throwing up more deals than you can shake a stick at.
For post-lecture drinks, drop by 360 Champagne & Cocktails on Thursdays between 12 and 5pm for Student Happy Hour, and receive two for one on Bellini cocktails. Or if sport is more your idea of a study break, Sports Café does Buy One Get One Free on all of its main meals between 12 and 8pm, with all bottled beers and pints just £2!
Unit One, meanwhile, offers a burger and beer combo for just £3.50, which is not to be sniffed at. And Akbars will give you 10% discount from Sunday to Thursday, before 7pm and after 10pm.
While Leeds is often described as one of the easiest cities to get around, it can be made even easier when you take advantage of some of the awesome offers. First Bus Group offers £1 single bus fares on all of the main student routes, as well as Term and Monthly student tickets, for even bigger savings.
And while one can save a third on all rail fares when they purchase a 16-24 Young Person’s Railcard, this can be turned into 50% off when you book your fares through TransPennine Express. Weekend in London, coming up!
Things to Do
For a dose of arts and culture, Leeds doesn’t let its students down. Carriageworks Theatre offers three free shows to those with a valid NUS card, plus the option to see classic movies on the big screen for just £3 with their ‘Not For Rental’ series. Meanwhile, Opera North’s Under 30 scheme offers discounted tickets for opera and theatre productions at Leeds Grand Theatre, Leeds Town Hall and the Howard Assembly Room. You’ll also receive invitations to special backstage events too.
And finally, Hyde Park Picturehouse offers a special student membership which, for £14 for a year, gives you £5 off film tickets, a 15% discount at Pitza Cano and invitations to special screenings and events. What more could a film obsessive want?
If you fancy exploring another city, on the other hand, the Leeds University Student Union runs ‘Give It a Go’ day trips every Saturday at bargain rates, giving you the option to enjoy road trips, new experiences and relaxing spa days. Visit the Union website for more details and to get tickets.
Several hair and beauty salons in Leeds understand the student dilemma of saving money and looking good doing it, so aim to make it as cheap as possible. It’s why Rebel Pinup Hairdressers offers students 50% off on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Millie’s Beauty Room gives 20% off every day on all of its beauty treatments.
PureGym, meanwhile offers a brilliant student membership at just £16.99 per month. And PureGym Leeds in particular offers a second discount to NUS Extra cardholders, which is no joining fee. Bonus!
