Student Discounts in Newcastle

With your NUS or student ID card in hand, you’ll be adequately armed to claim a number of benefits and discounts when you settle into your life in Newcastle!

Here are just a few of the ones to watch out for.

Retail Therapy

As you probably already know, dozens of mainstream brands offer student discount nationwide, ranging anywhere from 10 to 25%. In Newcastle, you can get money off goods from Superdrug and National Express, not to mention the big players Domino’s, Amazon, ASOS, Netflix, Apple, Virgin Media and a whole host of other fashion and tech retailers.

Two of Newcastle’s main shopping centres, Elton Square and The Gateshead, offer regular Student Shopping nights where students can go crazy! As well as a variety of discounts and deals, the nights usually also involve goodie bags, freebies, live DJs and fun activities, as well as the chance to win heaps of prizes from your favourite retailers.

Finally, for luscious locks, head on over to Toni & Guy, where students get a 10% discount from Monday to Wednesday. There’ll be no excuse to ever skip a haircut again…

Food & Leisure

Socialising and dining out can be expensive if you do it regularly. But thanks to some of the awesome deals offered by many eateries in Newcastle, you don’t have to feel guilty when treating yourself.

Chain restaurants such as Zizzi’s, Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, Frankie & Benny’s and Yo Sushi all offer their own student discounts nationwide. And catching a movie afterwards need not be pricey, as The Gate’s Empire Cinema charges just £4.95 for movie tickets before 5pm (on Mondays and from Wednesdays to Fridays) and £5.75 from 5pm onwards.

St James’ Park, Newcastle’s leading venue for many great sporting events, offers students 25% off standard ticket prices…meaning there’s a much better chance of you catching your favourite team heroes.

Keeping fit will no longer feel like a struggle, with gyms like Eldon Leisure Centre offering special student rates on all its on and off-peak memberships. Body Zone Gym, meanwhile, offers a bargain membership fee at just £15 per month, as well as 50% off the joining fee.

If you’re an NUS Extra cardholder, however, you can enjoy a £15.99 per month membership without the joining fee at Newcastle Uni Student Gym. The gym also offers the chance for you to freeze your membership at any time, which is perfect if money gets tight or you’re off home for a couple of weeks.
