Edinburgh Napier University is one of Scotland’s largest higher education institutions and is home to nearly 20,000 students from over 140 countries.
Named after John Napier, the 16th century mathematician who invented the decimal point and logarithms, the university started life as Napier Technical College in 1964 and gained university status in 1992. John Napier’s home is now part of the Merchiston Campus, one of the university’s three main campuses.
Edinburgh Napier University’s three campuses are purpose designed to make learning and working as easily accessible as possible and Downing Student Accommodation mirrors this by providing students with student housing that is located near good transport links and within walking distance of the city centre.
Offering a varied programme of study, Edinburgh Napier is made up of six schools, which are split across the campuses – Craiglockheart Campus is home to the Business School, Merchiston Campus covers Engineering, Built Environment, Computing and Creative Industries, and Sighthill Campus teaches Applied Sciences and Health & Social Care.
Edinburgh Napier University has received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize on two occasions, firstly in 2009 for Higher and Further Education and then again in 2015 for its acclaimed work in Timber Engineering, Sustainable Construction and Wood Science. It is also ranked as the number one UK University for Law and ranks highly for Journalism, Building, Drama, English and Music. The Times Higher Education ranks Edinburgh Napier University within the top 5% of world universities and it holds an impressive 95% graduate employment rate.
With its strong international focus, Edinburgh Napier University is the largest UK provider of higher education in Hong Kong and has links to other overseas universities and higher education institutions, allowing students to study for an Edinburgh Napier certified degree from within their own country.
