With its strong international student community, the University of Liverpool is renowned for its global connections.  It has three connected universities based in London, Singapore and Suzhou in China as well as various links with international research institutes, governments and industrial organisations.

Downing Student Accommodation offers three student housing options that are located close to the main Liverpool campus ensuring that no matter where you come from in the world you will always receive a warm welcome.

The University of Liverpool was founded as a college in 1881 and quickly established itself as a respected educational institute, being granted the right to award degrees in 1903. As a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group it is also one of eight research-intensive universities who collaborate as the N8 Research partnership in the North of England.

The university is split over two campuses with the city centre based Liverpool campus comprising of three faculties:

  1. Health & Life Sciences
  2. Science & Engineering
  3. Humanities & Social Sciences

And the nearby Leahurst campus in the Wirral, which focuses on Veterinary Science.

The University of Liverpool was the world’s first university to set up departments in Oceanography, Civic Design, Architecture and Biochemistry and has nine Nobel Prize winners among its alumni – including Sir James Chadwick who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1935 for the discovery of the neutron and Sir Ronald Ross who was awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1902 for his discovery of the life cycle of the malarial parasite.

These days the University of Liverpool, and connected universities, is home to over 55,000 students, 8,000 of which come from overseas, and over 33,000 of whom are based on their Liverpool campus.

Offering over 250 Undergraduate Bachelor’s programmes across 31 subjects and approximately 160 Postgraduates Masters programmes, the University of Liverpool offers its students variety and flexibility in their learning.
