Christmas for many students may be different because it may mean spending the festive period in student accommodation away from loved ones at home. Staying in your University home might feel a bit strange, but don’t worry – it could be a great opportunity to do things a little differently during the festive season. There’s lots of things you can do to get into the festive spirit and here are our tops tips to celebrate Christmas.
Deck The Halls and Decorate Your Accommodation
Spread festive vibes throughout your student accommodation with seasonal decorations, starting with a Christmas tree. You can even split the cost with your flatmates! Decorating for the festive season doesn’t need to break the bank either. You can get crafty by attending resident Christmas-themed craft workshops.
Celebrate Christmas in your University City
There are so many amazing events organized by your wonderful halls teams for you to take part in to help you get into the festive spirit, here is the magical City Side Christmas event which included a choir, reindeer, treats and more.
Christmas Markets
Christmas markets bring all the festive joy and are in all university cities. There are so many things to enjoy from tasty treats, hot drinks and quirky unique gifts. All admission free!
This is Newcastle market which is a must and is only a 15-minute walk away if you are living at Verde & The View.

Have A Movie Night
Make the most of your Downing Students Cinema room and enjoy a series of festive movie marathons with all of the treats. Tis the season after all! You may even be joined by fellow residents!
Eat, Drink and Be Merry

If now isn’t the time to blast out some Christmas classics, when is? Have fun by creating your own playlists to keep your festive cheer going throughout the festive period. You can even share playlists with friends too!
Make the most of your time
If most of your flatmates are travelling home for the festive season, take this time as an opportunity to meet those who also may be staying in your student accommodation during Christmas.
Use this time to also practise self-care routines, with the advantage of free run of your resident social spaces and gym workouts!
Give Your time back and volunteer
Your time and efforts will be appreciated by any number of charitable organisations over the festive season. Simply helping at homeless shelters, working for food banks or even using your talents to entertain others over the Christmas period – there’s a wide variety of ways you can help in your local community.
