Keeping a healthy body and mind is essential for our well-being. We understand that most of your standard exercise options are off limit for the time being so we have come up with some tips to help you stay fit while adhering to the government advice and staying safe!

  1. Go for a run!

Running has a huge amount of benefits, our favourite is that its FREE! Stick on your trainers, find a quiet route and go for it. There are plenty of apps available to help you track your progress too.  If you’re not a runner already, try downloading the couch to 5k app (https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/) an NHS developed programme designed to get complete beginners running 5k in 9 weeks! Each session is around 30 mins long and requires you to run 3 times a week.

  1. Climb the stairs!

So this one depends on where you are, but whether you are still in your accommodation or you’re at home we’re sure there will be some outdoor stairs near-by or if not you can use the ones at home! (Check out your local surroundings on google maps to find the perfect nearby spot)

Climbing stairs has been proven to burn more calories per minute than jogging and has great cardiovascular fitness benefits!

  1. Skipping!

Skipping might seem like something more for children, but did you know the average person burns around 200 calories from just 15 minutes of skipping. This activity can be done outdoors or indoors, just make sure you have enough space! You can buy a skipping rope on amazon for less than £5 here – https://www.amazon.co.uk/Skipping-Ropes/b?ie=UTF8&node=671757011

  1. NHS 10 minute workouts!

The NHS has produced a range of easy to follow 10 minute workouts accessible to everyone on their website. These are great for beginners or to add on to your current work out as a little boost! The workouts cover cardio, toning, legs bums and tums, abs and arms.

  1. Virtual Classes!

It has never been easier to access online work outs. Everyone from personal trainers to your favourite celebrities are sharing their home work outs on social media channels! We recommend starting off with the 7 day’s of sweat challenge 2020 from Joe Wicks (The Body Coach). The workouts last around 20 minutes and don’t require a huge amount of space or any equipment… perfect!

Exercise and getting fresh air can be really beneficial during this time and can help you avoid falling into an unhealthy routine, but please do ensure to follow government guidelines when leaving your home and keep to a minimum 2 metre distance from others.
