WHY ATTENDING A UCAS EVENT IS A GOOD IDEA

There are so many valuable reasons to attend a UCAS led event. From getting in front of leading universities to find the right one for you, discovering what the university application process entails, learning about student finance and what university life is like in general. UCAS Discovery Events can also be helpful if you’re yet to decide whether higher education is right for you, or if you’re simply looking for the next steps to take in your career.

DISCOVER YOUR PBSA OPTIONS

Attending events like these mean you can meet with several student accommodation providers who will be there to help you find the right accommodation.

If you are considering studying in London, put 10th May in your calendar for the University of London Housing Fair. You can meet our amazing London team who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and talk you through the various room types we have available.

 ATTEND THE TALKS!

There are several talks hosted by industry professionals at UCAS Discovery events. Our advice is to attend as many as you can. You can learn more about course modules and gain insight about future career pathways. Knowledge is wealth!

BAG THE FREEBIES

One of the best things about Housing Fair events are the freebies on hand. Whether it’s a trusty shopper, sweets, stationary, you name it. A good idea is to use these a conversation starter to build rapport with universities, student accommodation providers and prospective students alike.

QUESTIONS TO ASK

Be prepared. You want to gain as much information as possible from events like the UCAS Discovery Events. Here are a few questions you may want to ask:

• What courses do you offer in the area I want to study?
• What does the ideal applicant look like?
• What grades do I need to get onto this course?
• How many hours per week will I need to be in university?
• What are the modules like for this course?
• What student accommodation options are there?
• Are there good public transport links to the university?
• What are the student finance options?
• What’s the typical career path for graduates of this course or apprenticeship?
• What are the options open to me for funding this course or apprenticeship?

TAKE A BREAK

If university isn’t for you or at least not right now, taking a gap year might be a good idea. Attending a UCAS event can help you with career options that are suited to you.

YOUR NEAREST UCAS EVENT

UCAS conventions take place across the UK in most major cities. You can see here when your nearest one is.

DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER

You will usually need to register ahead for a UCAS event, so make sure you are fully prepared. Don’t worry, tickets are free!

MAKE USE OF THE UCAS HUB

Once you have attended a UCAS event, make use of the free UCAS hub tool. You can follow up with your favourite choices, plan next steps and gain personal advice if you are still unsure.

TAKE A CAREERS QUIZ

If you are still unsure about what you want to do next within your education and career, don’t panic. The UCAS Career quiz is a great way to help you decide your next step in both your academic and career journey based on a few insightful questions.

STUDENT HOUSING FAIRS

Alongside UCAS led events, there are several housing fairs also available. These will be organised typically by housing operators or local universities. Bare this in mind when doing your research.
