spring clean season

Spring is the perfect time for embracing spring cleaning and transforming your living space into a sanctuary for study and leisure. We have put together a guide of our top tips this week to help you get Spring ready.

Organise Your Study Space

Organise your study area by getting rid of unnecessary papers, sorting textbooks, and neatly arranging stationery. Invest in desk organisers or storage solutions that fit your needs.

Make the most of your storage space

Maximise your storage space by using under-bed storage boxes, collapsible bins, and over-the-door organisers. Utilize vertical space with bookshelves or stackable storage containers. If there are smaller items you no longer need, make the most of your communal resident waste bins.

Get Rid of Unused Items

Unused items take up so much space, take time to think about if you do get use of all your items. If you don’t find ways to recycle, sell, donate or place in waste you can’t find alternative homes for them. These can be anything and everything from textbooks and clothes to duplicate kitchen utensils and unused electronics.

Make the most of donation points nearby to you. For example, if you are living in Downing Students’ accommodation, you will find donation points in reception. Check with your hall’s teams on items you can and cannot deposit.

Give your unwanted items a new lease of life

Charity shops & selling apps are a great way to donate any items that are cluttering your wardrobe and living space. What better than rehoming your unwanted items and earning some extra cash in the process? Below are just a few you can use.

  • British Heart Foundation
  • Oxfam
  • Vinted
  • Thrift Plus
  • Depop

The big Spring clean

Once you’ve decluttered, take the time to thoroughly clean your living space. Dust surfaces, vacuum, or mop floors, and wipe down windows. Don’t forget to refresh your linens, curtains, and upholstery too! Don’t forget to tackle those hard-to-reach spots like under your bed or behind your dresser. A clean and organized living space can help boost productivity and create a more peaceful environment for studying and relaxing. You can save our spring clean checklist to help. A good idea to help your spring clean fly by is to put on your favourite playlist.

 Maintain a Clutter-Free Environment

Establish a habit of regular tidying up to maintain a clutter-free environment. Adopt a “one in, one out” rule for new items and dedicate a few minutes each day to tidying up your space.

Remember, spring cleaning and decluttering is not just about having a tidy space—it’s about creating a fresh and inspiring environment that supports your university journey and personal growth.

Finally, celebrate your achievements! Creating a clean and organized living space will enhance your well-being, focus, and productivity. Take pride in your efforts and enjoy the benefits of a clutter-free environment.

Spring Clean your CV

Spring cleaning doesn’t just have to be about cleaning. It can also be a time when you’re probably considering what you’ll be doing with your summer break.

Whether you’re looking for a top-level banking internship or a Saturday coffee shop job to pay the bills, Spring is the perfect time to update your CV and make sure it’s in tip-top condition. Having a relevant and up-to-date CV is crucial when applying for internships or jobs.
