Eight of the best Covid-friendly things to do this festive season

 

It may not be our usual run up to Christmas, but December 2020 can still be a fun-packed festive treat, if you know how to do it right! With a whole host of online events, treats and present ideas to get involved in, you can get in the holiday spirit right from the comfort of your own room!

At Downing, we’ve put on lots of virtual entertainment in the run up to Christmas over on our Instagram, from festive yoga with Lex and competitions to win some tasty goodies from Itsu, to Christmas cook-a-long with Chef Ella and chocolate tasting with Hotel Chocolat, there’s tonnes for you to get involved in!

Alternatively, we have collated a list of some of the best in festive entertainment accessible from every corner of the country, and to suit every budget!

Who Sleighed Santa – a virtual Christmas murder mystery night

Running on the 5th, 12th and 19th of December, this festive whodunit from Tall Tale Mysteries promises laughs, a host of questionable characters, and you as detective – it you think you’re up for it!

Prices start at £12 per person, with Christmas party pack add-ons to turn your room/flat into the perfect backdrop for this grizzly grotto!

 

Comedy Pops – a golden hour of online comedy (Christmas special)

Comedy Pops it set for a Christmas comeback Friday 18th December, featuring an hour’s worth of festive cheer from some of the World’s best and brightest upcoming comedy stars.

Tickets are free, and the show kicks off at 8pm – so get yourself a glass of mulled wine and settle down for some virtual comedy and real laughs!

 

Virtual festive cocktail masterclass

Show off your best bartending moves in this mixology masterclass, with up to two hours to learn three delicious cocktails from a host who takes you through each drink step-by-step and even allows you time to drink it!

The events run on the 5th and 6th of December, and prices start from £22. Everything you need, from alcohol to garnishes, will be delivered straight to your doorstep, so you can enjoy mixing up these festive treats in the comfort and safety of your own home.

 

A West End Christmas

If you fancy a little theatre this Christmas, look no further than A West End Christmas, filmed live at St Paul’s Cathedral. This festive tour-de-force will be featuring performances from West End stars of “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Only Fools and Horses”, “Wicked”, “Come From Away” as well as the West End Kids, and with special guest performances from Tom Allen, Samantha Bond and many more.

Tickets are £15, and proceeds will go to help the Make a Difference Trust in its Covid relief efforts. Shows run between the 10th and 13th of December.

 

 

Scrooge’s Quest: The Christmas Carol online interactive game

Split into teams to find the three keys that unlock the shackles trapped to Jacob Marley’s soul and free him once and for all in this festive challenge, running from the 4th– 20th December. Navigate the Dickensian streets and speak to a cast of unforgettable characters in this 90 minute escape room style virtual event.

Tickets are £10 per household, and shows start at 7pm!

 

Virtual doughnut & gingerbread house making classes

Put your baking skills to the test this December with Bread Ahead’s online masterclass in doughnuts, crème patissière & raspberry jam and gingerbread house making and decorating. Tickets include a handy guide with everything you need to buy to make these tasty treats, plus a two hour workshop talking you through the process!

Tickets are £20 for two hours between 1pm and 3pm, and prices are for a whole household, so everyone can join in with the delicious fun!

 

Bantzquest: interactive nightclub adventure

If going out and partying is what you’re missing this festive season, look no further than Bantzquest’s interactive nightclub adventure! Create the nightclub of your dreams with your best squad in this journey to getting your song of choice played by the best DJ in the land. This virtual night out will be unique to your team’s choices, so it’s up to you if you end up blagging your way onto the dancefloor throwing shapes, or the pavement outside looking in.

Tickets are £20 per person, with five people allowed per team.

 

Christmas afternoon tea hamper

I don’t know about you, but we think Christmas is for enjoying the best food, and this lovely afternoon tea hamper from TreatTingz does not disappoint! Each hamper includes enough tea for two and a range of baked goods including a muffin, brownie, cakes and cookies.
