The University of Liverpool was founded as a college in 1881 and quickly established itself as a respected educational institute, being granted the right to award degrees in 1903. As a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group it is also one of eight research-intensive universities who collaborate as the N8 Research partnership in the North of England.

The University of Liverpool was the world’s first university to set up departments in Oceanography, Civic Design, Architecture and Biochemistry and has nine Nobel Prize winners among its alumni – including Sir James Chadwick who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1935 for the discovery of the neutron and Sir Ronald Ross who was awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1902 for his discovery of the life cycle of the malarial parasite.
These days the University of Liverpool, and connected universities, is home to over 55,000 students, 8,000 of which come from overseas, and over 33,000 of whom are based on their Liverpool campus.
Offering over 250 Undergraduate Bachelor’s programmes across 31 subjects and approximately 160 Postgraduates Masters programmes, the University of Liverpool offers its students variety and flexibility in their learning.
